    Ben comments:      the French labour force was rather more active than usual for our visit; all metropolitan transport was suspended for the day of our arrival and none of the major museums (except for Versailles) were open as the museum workers were locked in a pay dispute. In a roundabout sort of way this was actually quite fortunate for us, because we spent the time getting to know Paris as a city rather than sinking into the Louvre for two days. As with Rome, however, we walked rather a lot - our poor feet took weeks to recover...   |
